about

Gabrieli's New Piece is a satirical research created and performed by Intercalaris in April 2015. The research imagines the limits of explored spatialisation by pioneer Giovanni Gabrieli, had he been alive today. The research found a final work for Tru Audio Format (The highest possible number of individual channels in any digital audio format).

The following are Mono realisations of Giovanni Gabrieli’s fixed media work for 650,535 channels in TruAudio (.TTA) format.

no.1
This realisation is created by cutting between individual channels. A circulation of all 650,535 channels is completed every 2 and a half seconds.

no.2
This realisation simulates all the channels being sounded from 650,535 individual speakers in an digitally expanded version of St. Marks Basilica, Venice. The sound is then virtually recorded in mono from one central point.

no.3
This realisation simulates one continuous recording made by travelling through a 1.35km tunnel, inside which, 650,535 individual speakers are placed at equal intervals. The speed of virtual movement means that the time taken to complete the tunnel is the exact duration of the composition.

no.4
This realisation plays only the mean average channel of sound content measured in amplitude. This is channel no. 706, or The Golden Boy.
